Van insurance policyholders bought more light commercial vehicles last month as demand picked up, according to new figures.
A report from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) found that new van registrations totalled 8,978 in February, up by 26.1 per cent month-on-month and 8.8 per cent for the year-to-date.
"Despite the hesitant economic recovery, demand for new vans has picked up," said Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive.
However, he added that a consistent recovery is not expected for some time so "durable growth in business investment and confidence is vital" to keep van insurance policyholders purchasing new light commercial vehicles
"The government's 2010 Budget needs to deliver clear, supportive and dependable policies," he added.
This should include better access to business credit so sustain this recovering demand for vans and trucks.
Meanwhile, Nissan has reported van sales of 35,502 units in February, representing an increase of four per cent year-on-year.
