Car insurance policyholders continued to spend money on new vehicles in February, with 27 per cent more registrations recorded compared to the same month in 2009.
Figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) showed that there were 68,210 new car registrations last month, up from 53,912 in February last year.
The Renault Clio proved to be the most popular model with car insurance policyholders in England, with 966 being registered, according to the SMMT.
Despite the bad press for Toyota last month amid the recall of thousands of vehicles, the Yaris still performed well, with a total of 964 new registrations for the vehicle.
The figures showed that Ford still has the best year-to-date figures in terms of registrations, with 9,984 car insurance policyholders buying the Fiesta so far in 2010.
In January, the number of registrations made through the scrappage scheme, for both cars and vans, passed 315,000, the SMMT reported.
