One in five van insurance customers 'would consider going electric'
31 Aug 2010
Research has found that one fifth of van insurance policyholders would consider driving an electric van, which may interest those searching for motor insurance quotes or considering an eco-friendly commercial vehicle.
According to a survey by Swinton Commercial, 19 per cent of van insurance customers would think about buying an electric van to help the environment t, but only if the price was right.
The company's findings follow the government's announcement of plans to offer 25 per cent – to a maximum of £25,000 – off the purchase price of an electric vehicle, under a new scheme beginning next year.
Phil Moss, commercial vehicle manager at the firm, warned drivers to compare van insurance quotes before going electric.
"Although there are many benefits of driving a greener vehicle such as reduced carbon emissions and lower road tax, van drivers need to be aware that insurance premiums may be higher than driving a conventional vehicle," he explained.
Meanwhile, van drivers looking to invest in a second-hand vehicle were told last week by price analysts at CAP that used van prices had dropped below 2009's price lows for the first time in 12 months.
