Do hydrogen cars have a bright future ahead?

01 Feb 2012

There are many developments being put into place to make hydrogen cars more appealing to motor insurance policyholders.

Dr Ben Lane, from Next Green Car, acknowledged that the UK has a load of work planned to boost this form of motoring.

For one, he pointed out that there is an array of projects being lined up in order to turn the M4 into the country's prime 'hydrogen highway', with some developments already complete.

Dr Lane was keen to stress though that there are still some niggles associated with hydrogen cars, with a main one being the fact that fuel cell life is still limited.

Therefore, the expert stated: "I think you can consider hydrogen fuel cells to be a future extension of current electric vehicles. There is a whole spectrum of different types of electric vehicle, and they are a possible future destination."

In order to boost the appeal of electric cars, transport minister Norman Baker and business minister Mark Prisk have recently revealed that the plug-in car grant is being extended in the UK to at least 2015.
