Car insurance holders 'must be better protected when buying used vehicles'

An online retailer has called for used car dealers to offer better protection for motor insurance policyholders.
Carsite.co.uk highlighted a report by the Office of Fair Trading into used car retailing, which suggested that in far too many cases the onus seems to be on the buyer to ask the right questions so that they do not get a bad deal.
In addition, car insurance policyholders are responsible for getting the right checks done to ensure they are protecting themselves, the report said.
"Consumers do need greater protection, but that shouldn't be the case," commented Alistair Jeff from Carsite.co.uk.
"It really is a crying shame," Mr Jeff added.
Each vehicle sold through Carsite.co.uk is given a free HPI check and an independent inspection by motoring organisation the RAC.
Vehicle information company HPI recently warned car insurance policyholders to be on their guard when buying used vehicles as criminals continue to use stolen log books to clone cars.
