There are lot of technological hoops for electric cars to go through before they become mainstream choices for motor insurance policyholders, an drivers' group has claimed.
Brian Macdowell, spokesperson for the Association of British Drivers, expressed concerns that there may not be sufficient power to charge possibly 32 million cars in the future.
"There is also a big question about the lithium required for the batteries and whether there is enough lithium worldwide to sustain the globe's vehicle population," he said.
Mr Macdowell said it has not been proven "beyond reasonable doubt" that the electricity capacity in this country would be enough to support the majority of car insurance policyholders moving over to electric vehicles.
Last week, electric car company THINK announced that it is to work with AeroVironment, a leading developer and supplier of charging infrastructure.
The idea is to speed up the development of fast-charge systems in the US.
