Vitaly Petrov replaces Jarno Trulli at Caterham
20 Feb 2012
Vitaly Petrov has told motor insurance policyholders of his delight at being given another chance to shine in Formula One (F1).
However, Jarno Trulli, who has been replaced at Caterham by the Russian, has disclosed why he feels he and other Italian drivers are not being given very many opportunities in the motorsport.
He explained that there is currently "no system" in place to help young Italian drivers reach the pinnacle of the sport.
The decision to appoint Petrov as the teammate of Heikki Kovalainen means that all driver positions for the F1 2012 season have now been filled.
The Russian disclosed to Sky Sports that he is "much more happy" after being confirmed to be competing in F1, following a "difficult" winter.
Looking forward, Petrov said: "Of course, I will improve with a new team like Caterham. They have a big future and like you see what they did in the last two years, they are improving every year their car."
Trulli was not as optimistic though, pointing out that a F1 grid without an Italian driver for the first time since 1973 "is a shame".
