Virgin Racing 'reach milestone' in development of all-digital F1 car

01 Feb 2010

Posted by Dan winters

Virgin Racing has announced that it is on track to getting its car ready for the start of the new Formula 1 season.

With the season due to kick off in Bahrain in the middle of March, the newcomer is set to unveil its VR-01 car via the internet this week.

And, while the vehicle's exact details are being kept under wraps, it has been confirmed that it will be the sport's first 'all-digital' development, being not only launched online, but also tested entirely through computer simulations rather than through the standard wind tunnels.

Welcoming the progress, Virgin Racing technical director Nick Writh said: "I'm really happy to have done the fire-up checks and to have reached this new milestone in our schedule as planned.

"I must say the VR-01 is looking quite a neat package, and we're all looking forward to seeing the car on-track for the first time on Thursday."

Meanwhile, Vodafone McLaren Mercedes has unveiled its new car for the upcoming season, with drivers Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton on hand to show off the vehicle in Valencia.
