How is Pirelli aiming to make F1 more competitive?

27 Jan 2012

Pirelli is hoping to create even closer action for motor insurance policyholders to enjoy once the new Formula One (F1) season gets underway.

The Italian firm disclosed that their new range of tyres for the motorsport is set to create an even closer pack than last year.

In order to achieve such a feat, Pirelli will introduce four sets of dry-weather tyres which are each softer than those used during the 2011 campaign.

Each of these will be colour coded - silver for hard, white for medium, yellow for soft and red for super-soft - and be bold enough in tone for television viewers to easily identify.

Paul Hembery, the motorsport director of Pirelli, commented: "We have had to make changes and the objective of those changes is to make the racing closer."

The contract that the Italian tyre giant has with the FIA means that the firm will be supplying every tyre to F1 during this season and the 2013 campaign too.
