Police target dangerous motor insurance customers in Brailsford
26 Aug 2010
A police crackdown on dangerous driving in Derbyshire has seen at least 70 car insurance policyholders fined or warned about their conduct in a five-hour period.
The BBC has reported that police and road safety officials stopped motor insurance customers on a stretch of the A52 in Brailsford.
Offenders included 37 motorists who were not wearing their seatbelts, 17 drivers exceeding the speed limit and a further 11 car insurance policyholders who were caught using their mobile phones at the wheel.
Sergeant Steve Edwards told the news provider that local residents had told the police of their concern about unsafe driving in the area.
"I hope that these checks will also act as a reminder to motorists about their responsibility to be both safe and also considerate drivers," he said.
Earlier this month, research from Sainsbury's Finance revealed that almost two-thirds of UK motor insurance customers had recently engaged in some form of potentially dangerous activity while driving.
