Increasing motorway speed limit 'on drivers' minds'

12 Jul 2010

Posted by Michael Brown

Car insurance customers want to see the motorway speed limit increased to 80mph, with over half of drivers admitting that they break the current law on a regular basis.

Motoring Matters reported that many drivers claim it would alleviate congestion on the roads and will mean less accidents, with some stating that we should follow the example of Germany's autobahns.

Other motoring discussions which have been flying around internet forums include reducing the drink-drive limit.

The news source said that although 75 per cent think this is a good idea, there is a general consensus that the situation will not vastly improve in the near future.

Furthermore, a small contingent of people said that doing this would have a knock-on effect for the economy, as a lower drink-drive limit would increase pressure on pubs.

Last month the Daily Mail reported that plans to bring the alcohol limit down to just one drink could damage rural pubs, after Lord Adonis ordered a review into the current laws.
