The Community Safety Partnership in Carmarthenshire has bought a speed radar gun to crack down on car insurance policyholders driving unsafely in local communities.
Neighbourhood Policing Teams in the county will be able to use the gun in areas were residents are concerned about speeding.
It is hoped that the new technology will serve as a warning to car insurance policyholders and help to reduce speeds.
Chairman of the partnership's Road Safety Action Group Trevor Sage said that speeding remains a major concern for communities in the county.
"As a result, much work is being done across Carmarthenshire not only to reduce the speed of our traffic but also to educate drivers about the consequences of driving too fast," he added.
Last month, police in Cumbria launched a campaign to crack down on car insurance policyholders committing traffic offences after concerns were highlighted by the local community.
Residents said that speeding and inconsiderate driving had become an increasing problem.
