A96 upgrade opens early to Scottish motorists
01 Feb 2012
People with car insurance policies who regularly commute around the north east of Scotland now have access to a new part of the A96.
A bypass on the main road which links Aberdeen with Inverness has been opened early and within budget by Scottish transport minister Keith Brown.
The major infrastructure project cost £31.5 million to develop and looks to cut journey times considerably, as well as improve road safety and congestion measures.
Mr Brown commented: "Having supported around 200 jobs during its construction … we expect the bypass to now support businesses around Moray, Aberdeenshire and further afield by making their journeys quicker and more efficient."
The enhancements put in place with the development include two new road bridges over the A96, as well as more than three miles of new trunk road.
Over the next few days, Scottish motorists can also get a glimpse into the planned dualling of the A9 between Luncarty and Tay Crossing.
Exhibitions into the planned work are being held at Dunkeld today (February 1st) and then at Bankfoot two days later.
