Brits looking to rent a car while on holiday this summer need to make sure they have the correct car insurance cover, according to an expert.
Hire firm Europcar explains that car insurance is usually included in the rates, although there will be an excess to pay in the event of an accident.
The company recommends that motorists check the amount they would have to pay out under these circumstances and look into what other options they have in terms of cover.
This might include reducing the excess or eliminating it altogether through different types of car insurance packages provided.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office also recommends motorists check with their insurer whether they can provide top-up cover to add extra assurance when driving abroad.
Other things to consider when renting a car are carrying out an inspection on receiving the vehicle and making sure any scratches or damages to the interior or bodywork are recorded in the paperwork supplied by the agent, says Europcar.
