Schumacher to wow Wembley crowds

22 Jun 2007

Seven-time Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher will head the line-up at a star-studded race at Wembley Stadium this December.

Joining him on the grid for the Race of Champions charity event will be fellow F1 racers David Coulthard and Jenson Button, as well as rally driver Colin McRae and current World Touring Car champion Andy Priaulx.

Schumacher previously took part in the event in 2004 and said: "I enjoyed the atmosphere, both with the other drivers and in the stadium where the fans seemed to clearly enjoy themselves.

"I hope that my participation can help the event organisers raise even more funds and awareness for the Institute for Cerebral and Medullary Disorders."

Up to 80,000 spectators will cram into the newly-built Wembley for the event, which is being held in the UK for the first time this year.

The stadium will be fitted with a custom-built temporary tarmac track for the event, which will see top drivers face-off in one-on-one races with identical cars until the champion is declared.
