Scottish car insurance customers 'fail to keep eyes on the road'
02 Sep 2010
Winking, hooting and blown kisses are common among flirty Scottish motorists, according to new research, which could highlight the importance of car insurance to protect against accidents caused by careless drivers.
According to research by Autoglass UK, 58 per cent of motor insurance policyholders questioned admitted to taking their eyes off the road when an attractive pedestrian or road user took their fancy.
Some of the less subtle approaches uncovered by the survey included mooning, holding up signs and even leaping out of the car to enter another person's vehicle.
The poll revealed that the UK's most flirtatious drivers were by far those in Scotland, with 30 per cent of Scottish car insurance customers having eyed up other people on the road.
Matt Mycock, managing director of the firm, commented: "We're urging motorists to keep their eyes on the road and if they do encounter other drivers trying to grab their attention then to just ignore it."
Last month, in a poll conducted by the Institute of Advanced Motorists, 70 per cent of drivers confessed that they often got angry with other road users.
