Car theft and crash to result in motor insurance claim
30 Jul 2010
The owners of a vehicle that was stolen this week in Essex may find themselves having to make a car insurance claim.
Police in the area have appealed for any witnesses to the incident, which happened between 15:00 BST on Monday July 27th and 02:00 BST on July 27th, to come forward with information.
Thieves broke into a house on Grosvenor Road in Westcliff and snatched the keys to a car that was parked outside. The same vehicle was later involved in an accident on Ruskin Avenue.
PC Craig Davis said: "We know that quite a few people saw the burglars run off the from the crash scene," suggesting that witnesses could play a key role in catching the crooks.
The case clearly highlights the importance of having a good car insurance policy, as well as emphasising the need for car owners to keep their keys well hidden within their home and not on display to opportunists.
