Car insurance: Parents 'should address bad driving habits'

02 Sep 2010

Parents should brush up on their own driving abilities before attempting to teach their teenage children to drive, according to the What Car? Driving School, which may interest those shopping for car insurance.

The financial crisis has reportedly prompted many parents to ditch professional lessons and take over teaching duties themselves, but in many cases their knowledge is out of date.

What Car? Driving School is the only national driving school that encourages parents to participate in initial lessons, or to take guidance sessions with their child's instructor.

"With over 45 per cent of UK drivers likely to fail the current driving test it is all too clear that these drivers need a refresher driving lesson or two to ensure they do not pass on their bad habits to their teenagers," said Paul Atkinson, managing director of the organisation.

Meanwhile, recent research from Sainsbury's Finance revealed that two-thirds of British car insurance policyholders admit to having engaged in some form of potentially dangerous act whilst driving.
