Back-to-school rush 'could prompt rise in car insurance claims'
06 Sep 2010
This week, starting Monday September 6th, is expected to be one of the UK roads' busiest of 2010, as many of the country's children return to school, which could see an increase in road accidents and more car insurance claims being made.
According to figures from TomTom HD Traffic, last year's equivalent 'back-to-school' Monday saw 702 extra miles driven and almost 300 additional traffic incidents compared to a typical August weekday.
Having examined historical data, the organisation reported the distinct possibility of a surge in the number of cars on Britain's morning roads this week, which may prompt drivers to ensure the validity of their car insurance policy.
"At 08:30BST on Monday September 7th last year, there were a total of 578 separate traffic incidents causing rush hour delays, compared with only 281 incidents in mid-August," TomTom HD Traffic centre reported.
Meanwhile, parents have been urged by the What Car? Driving school to ensure that their own driving abilities are up to scratch before attempting to teach their children how to drive.
