Yorkshire motorbike insurance holders to get safer roads

16 Mar 2010

Posted by Dan Winters

Nuisance bike riders are to be taken off the road in a new scheme in South Yorkshire, those with motorbike insurance may be pleased to hear.

The Ecclesfield Safer Neighbourhood Team is running an operation to seize vehicles from young drivers who are flouting the rules of the road and risking accidents by behaving erratically on their bikes.

Most recently, a black Xplorer 100cc motorcycle was confiscated from two teenagers from the High Green area of Sheffield who were riding the bike unlawfully around Westwood Country Park.

"In specific circumstances, police have the power to destroy seized vehicles that have been used in an antisocial manner. It is therefore in the interest of motorbike enthusiasts to familiarise themselves with the law before buying a vehicle," a spokesperson for the South Yorkshire Police said.

A recent poll by the Institute of Advanced Motorists showed that almost three-quarters of people would report elderly friends or relatives to the authorities over concerns about them posing a danger to other car insurance policyholders.
