Tips for car insurance holders to help their kids
17 Nov 2008
Car insurance holders are being advised what to do when their kids start to drive.
The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) claims that new drivers - especially those in the under-20 age group - are most at risk in the early weeks following their test.
Parents who want to encourage safe driving among their offspring should become more involved in their children's driving in order to make sure they are safe behind the wheel.
Car insurance holders should ensure their kids use a professional instructor to learn how to drive and should teach by example and make sure they always use a seatbelt and keep to speed restrictions.
They are also advised to take the budding drivers on regular routes and highlight the likely risks on such journeys.
"Help them to practice driving in various conditions, such as night time, in poor visibility and if possible on rural roads," the IAM stated.
The Classic & Sports Car Centre reported last week that motor insurance holders are increasingly looking at vintage cars during the financial crisis.
It noted that the sector is buoyant despite the tough times being experienced by the rest of the motor industry.
