Motor insurance customers consider air-con 'an essential'

24 Aug 2010

New research has found that air-conditioning is the most valued built-in vehicle feature, with 81 per cent of car insurance customers naming it a must-have.

The latest survey from Exchangeandmart.co.uk asked motor insurance policyholders to rank a range of car equipment according to its importance, with air-conditioning being rated most essential by the majority.

Car insurance customers may be particularly interested to learn that security features, such as alarms and immobilisers were said to be extremely important by 67 per cent of respondents.

Michael Tang, marketing communications manager at the firm, suggested that the research provided evidence that motorists value practical features the most.

"While someone who's paid for an integrated television or boom box will highlight these add-ons in their car ad, they may overlook a feature such as air conditioning or the alarm system, but these are the ones that will sell the car to the widest audience," he added.

Earlier this week, the Sainsbury's Finance Car Buying Index revealed that the number of motor insurance policyholders planning to buy a new car between September and February had risen to its highest level in three years.
