Car insurance premiums 'will rise with points'
30 Jun 2008
Drivers have been warned they face steep financial penalties, such as greatly increased car insurance premiums, if they accrue points on their licence.
Carlton Hood, chief executive officer at Confused.com, has warned motorists that as well as suffering additional insurance costs when they gain points on their licence, they will also often be asked by insurers if they have received any in the past five years.
If they have, drivers could have high car insurance premiums for a lengthy period even after the points have expired.
Mr Hood suggests taking time to think about the consequences of "poor driving decisions" such as speeding.
"Saving two minutes on your journey time by skipping a red light or driving over the speed limit not only endangers yourself and others around you but you are risking a large fine, a tarnished licence and potentially higher insurance premiums," he adds.
Meanwhile, it has been revealed police in Gloucestershire are targeting speeding drivers.
Operation Highlander is specifically aiming to catch drivers travelling at dangerous speeds through Cheltenham town centre.
