BVRLA welcomes retaining of annual MOT test
02 Feb 2012
The British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) has backed the government in its decision to maintain the annual MOT test in the UK.
Motor insurance policyholders will continue to have their car tested three years after its date of manufacture, and then every year following this initial examination.
However, transport secretary Justine Greening was keen to point out that enhancements will be made to the test, by identifying transparency and value-for-money measures.
John Lewis, chief executive of the BVRLA, acknowledged that as long as garages are efficient in their work, the annual MOT test "works perfectly well for cars and vans".
Commenting on how the examination process can be improved further, Mr Lewis advised: "We would … urge the government to go further in clamping down on clockers by introducing some sort of licensing system for mileage adjustment companies."
The decision to retain the annual MOT test in the UK comes after long debates over whether the country should switch to a biennial examination, which is adopted by the majority of European nations.
