Adding an older, more experienced driver to a car insurance policy can help to lower premiums, an expert says.
Money-saving expert Martin Lewis, writing on the GMTV website, says that reducing risk is one of the main ways to reduce insurance premiums.
Parking a vehicle off-road and picking the "cheapest, yet correct, job title" are other ways of making yourself appear a safer customer.
"As insurance premiums are based on risk, the less likely you're perceived to make a claim, the less your policy will cost," explains Mr Lewis.
He advises drivers to read the small print before signing up to a policy to make sure they have the right level of cover for their needs.
Mr Lewis says that motorists should not simply assume if they have renewed their car insurance with the same provider that the terms will be the same.
Meanwhile, Vauxhall and Bedfordshire Police have launched a campaign to encourage motorists to hide away their keys to avoid car theft and the risk of a hefty insurance claim.
