Do you realise the benefits of purchasing winter tyres?

Many car insurance policyholders are failing to acknowledge the benefits that winter tyres can have on their commute during cold snaps.

According to a survey carried out by Delticom, which trades in the UK as mytyres.co.uk, the majority of motorists are unable to identify the positive uses which cold weather tyres can have.

This is despite the same study highlighting that the average motorists rates the need to stay mobile just as highly in winter as any other time of the year.

Winter tyres designs stand out from any other set of rubbers due to the fact that they harden when gripping in low temperatures.

This allows the tyres to provide better grip on an ice or snow-covered road than what can be achieved with summer tyres, as well as boasting a shorter stopping distance.

Stuart Jackson, chairman of TyreSafe, has also recently given his input into the benefits of purchasing cold weather tyres.

He pointed out: "Cold, damp roads can be just as hazardous and should be treated with the upmost respect. Fitting winter tyres is the safest option as they provide extra grip in these types of conditions, making driving much safer."
