Car insurance policyholders vote for top 50 garages

Car insurance policyholders have named their top 50 garages in the UK for servicing and repairs in a poll.

The best garage in each region will now be selected in the final public voting stage and the national winner of the Golden Garage award will be chosen by a panel of expert judges from regulatory body Motor Codes.

It is hoped that this national campaign to find the UK's best garage will help car insurance policyholders to feel more confident about getting their vehicle serviced.

Motor Codes also wants reputable mechanics to gain the respect they deserve.

"Going to a garage can understandably be quite daunting for both men and women. You practically have to be a mechanic yourself to spot when you're being ripped off by a dishonest garage," said panel judge and TV presenter, Vicki Butler-Henderson.

Motor Codes began a consumer awareness campaign at the beginning of the year with support from the Department for Transport.
