Are you prepared for driving during the winter cold snap?

02 Feb 2012

Car insurance policyholders have been urged to take care when stepping behind the wheel during times of sub-zero temperatures.

The Highways Agency pointed out that roads can still be hazardous even if there is not any snow lying on the surface.

Black ice and severe frost can each create serious dangers to motorists, with the organisation therefore recommending that people leave extra time to complete their journey so to avoid any problems.

Jason Glasson, of the Highways Agency's winter team, added: "Although the forecast suggests you are unlikely to need a snow shovel this week, you should make sure you have plenty of warm clothing for you and your passengers."

The UK's cold snap is set to become even more intense over the coming days, with forecasters predicting widespread snow showers over the weekend, as well as the mercury dropping to as low as -10 degrees C tonight (February 2nd).
